Lesson 5.2 – Astrophysics – Expert guest scientist
In this lesson students will experience:
- A presentation by an expert guest scientist in the field of astrophysics.
- To provide students with insights into the cutting edge research being undertaken in an area of astrophysics by the guest researcher.

Welcome students to this lesson and encourage several of the students new to this unit to introduce themselves to each other and the class.
Teacher introduces the expert guest speaker and their field of research. N.B. This may involve the guest visiting the studio to talk face to face with the teachers or a remote link via WebEx (or Adobe connect, Skype or Google hangouts).
Collaboration – The common format is for the guest to provide a short prepared presentation Activity (5.2.1) to the students and teachers and then for the teachers and students to ask questions directly or by chat.
Reflection – Students invited to comment on what they found to be the most interesting and challenging questions raised by the presentation.
